The need for a Community Centre was recognised by the Commission for New Towns (now English Partnerships) and funds were allocated for the purpose.

The Cottam Community Association was formed in July 1998.

A public meeting was held in the school in October 1998 to assess the demand for a centre.

The committe drew up its constitution, which was approved at a public meeting in March 1999.

In May 1999 the constitution was accepted by the Charity Commission and we became a registered charity.

A house to house collection was held during July 1999 to raise funds and form a membership database.

Building work on the centre commenced on the 22nd November 1999.
A turf cutting ceremony was carried out by Teuvo Moilanen, goalkeeper for Preston North End Football Club. He was ably assisted by Deepdale Duck.

The centre was handed over to the committee on the 19th May 2000.

The centre was used by its first hirer in June 2000.
